The piece of land that separtes West Loch Tarbert from the harbour where the Caledonian Macbrane ferry berths is so very narrow and low-lying. It makes me wonder how things would have turned out if the last ice age had persisted for another couple of thousand years. Perhaps it would have overcome the land’s steadfast determination to remain united. However, the ice receded, the land remained intact and a thriving little village has grown up by the water’s edge.
