Description

Westering is a lovely old adjective and verb describing movement, shifting, or facing toward the west. It was often used for the sun, wind, or pioneers. It implies a westward journey or orientation, and was frequently used in literary contexts to evoke a sense of sunset or heading home. “Westering Home” is a renowned 20th-century Scottish folk song written by Sir Hugh S. Roberton in the 1920s, celebrating the journey back to the Isle of Islay. Often featuring a distinctive upbeat, Highland air, it became popular in choral music and was adopted as a slow march by the Royal Navy.
