Description

The 20th century saw an explosion in the number and variety of pinks, primarily as a result of the invention of chemical dyes that did not fade. A pioneer in this respect was the Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli who, in 1931, invented shocking pink by mixing magenta with a small amount of white. She also created a scandal at the time by launching a perfume of the same name, sold in a bottle in the shape of a woman’s bust. Move over Jean Paul Gautier! Strange then that this is often the colour of our westering sky!
