Description

On those scattered tranquil evenings, after the sun has set, and the western sky is cycling through all the hues, tints, tones, and shades of red, and purple, the procession of daytime gannets turns to dark specks, moving northward, barely metres above the sea, before disappearing altogether behind the headland that is Aird Dalbeg. It has always baffled me that the gannets always seem to fly north. Do they fly south at night, unseen? Or perhaps they have one route north and an entirely different route south – an innate two-way system? Someone will know the answers to these questions. In the meantime, we will continue enjoying our pound seats for one of Lewis’s many natural mysteries.
