Description

The highest sea cliffs in the United Kingdom are located below Conachair, on the main island of the St Kilda archipelago. They stand at  426 meters (1,398 ft) high. To the west, these cliffs above Stac a’Langa can only manage 250 meters, but are no less daunting. It was on these cliffs that native St Kildans foraged for seabird eggs among the dense colonies of gannets, fulmars, and puffins. They trained from childhood, and climbed barefoot, using handmade cowhide ropes, risking their lives to gather food and prove their readiness to become a fully-fledged member of this remote community. (Pardon the unintended pun). As a result, they developed larger feet and stronger angles than mainlanders.
