Description

Different places have different associations and meanings for different people. This wonderful old bridge originally took people and traffic up the old road on the west coast of Harris. Then progress brought the causeway across the machair, with a wider road and an easier route north to Tarbert. Nowadays, it is the road less travelled. However, it now serves as the western end of the Coffin Trail over to the east coast. And for me, it was the beginning of my bike ride up to the stone quarry, and the first place I ever discovered field gnetians growing wild in their natural habitat.
