Those that know the Outer Hebrides well will appreciate that the notion of a gentle breeze is a bit of a rare phenomenon. Nonetheless, there are occasional bright sunny days where the wind becomes lethargic and all it can muster is a zephyr, barely strong enough to move the grasses and flowers that crowd the machair. On these summer days, the sea and the sky seem to merge as one and a spectrum of turquoises puts on a display that almost equals the Northern Lights in winter.
