Description

If you had to distil the essence of what an Outer Hebridean home looked like, it would be this. A one and a half storey building with storm windows and a skylight upstairs. Two rooms either side of the front door. The bathroom and the kitchen tucked away in a corner inside. A single storey extension added later in the life of the house, perhaps as the family grew in size or more funds became available. Chimney pots at the top of each gable. White render and a black slate roof, all nestled snugly into the hillside. These words described my Granny’s house in Wester Ross. I suspect this was why I was drawn (pardon the unintended pun) to this beautiful house – so many happy childhood memories.
