Description

Tom Talaige is a really special place. It looks as though the stones have been placed with great care on the hilltop. There are no similar stones close by and there’s a standing stone circle no distance away, on the western banks of Loch Raoinavat. However, there’s nothing on the archaeological maps to suggest it is anything more than a random and entirely natural collection of stones. Yet the grass grows a verdant green around the stones when, just beyond, the moor is a relentless carpet of umber and ochre in the autumn and winter months. You can make your own mind up! By the way, Tom is the Gaelic word for a knoll or hill top, and Talnaig seems to be a corruption of a Norse given name (but I could be wrong!).
