Description

A lot of the time, people come into the gallery, look at one of the images on the wall or in a browser, look out the window, and then say, “Gosh, that’s just out there”. There’s often a tone of surprise before the penny drops: artists living in a place where every view is a painting in waiting – of course they would paint what’s on their doorstep. I don’t mean to be mean. That’s just how it is. And ‘Calm Seas : Dalbeg II’ is probably the image where this vignette plays out most often. Something about they way that Les has caught the colours, the suspicion of gentle movement beneath the water’s surface, the hint of the sandbar below, the slip of darker sky. It’s all there, capturing everything in general but specifying nothing in particular.
