Coming ashore at the jetty in Village Bay is a good deal less straightforward than you might imagine.  There is pretty well always a bit of a swell running in the bay and that means that getting ashore is something of a feat of balance and coordination.  Once the tender is alongside, you can be up to a couple of metres below the level of the jetty.  You plant one foot firmly on the gunwale and stand with the other foot out in mid air, steadied all the while by one of the boatmen.  You wait for the swell to lift the tender until you are level with the jetty and then, daintily, step off.  Great when it works…
