The west coast of Harris is probably most famous for its extraordinary beaches. And rightly so – these are undoubtedly some of the best beaches in the world. However, there is a multitude of tiny beaches along the coast as well, some only a few metres in width. These are the ones that always call to me, regardless of the weather. Cowrie Shell Beach is a particular treasure because, after a storm, it is carpeted with the tiny shells that were so rare when I was beachcombing as a child.
