Remember that feeling when you’ve visited a special place, and had a bundle of amazing experiences, and it comes time to go home. People living on the islands see visitors standing on the deck towards the stern of the ferry, in all weathers, taking in every final moment of the place where they have just spent a wonderful week or two. I wonder if you can imagine how that might have felt for the final 36 St Kildans who left their ancestral home on the morning of 29 August, 1930 – a place that had been continuously inhabited for more than two thousand years…
