Unless you are someone who scours maps, you would never know of the lighthouse at Leverburgh. There is neither sign nor path to hint at its existence. Park up just after the trees as you head towards Leverburgh from Northton and then walk southwest over the hill. You will be rewarded with wonderful views across the Sound of Harris towards Ensay, Killegray and North Uist beyond. And the area around the now disused lighthouse is a great place to explore, with care. Sadly, the top of this lighthouse has since been blown off in a storm – so it is just the octagonal tower that remains.
