Increasingly, the old red telephone boxes that have brightened up the countryside for many a year are becoming a thing of the past. Such a shame, really because, like a robin redbreast in the middle of winter, they bring a smile to my face. However, the “Telephone” sign attached to the telegraph pole echoes an even earlier time when telephone lines followed the route of the single track roads in the Highlands and Islands and blue was the colour that announced the presence of a phone box.
