Description

Astonishingly, this is the first (and meantime only) St Kilda dyke that I have captured in watercolour or pen & ink. Like all stone walls, it has a story or two to tell about its past. Most of the stones will have been gathered close to the enclosure formed by this wall. However, the two tall stones, which look like mile markers on stilts, have clearly been shaped, and the gap between them seems to be large enough for a person to pass through but too narrow to accommodate a Blackface, though I suspect that a Soay would have wriggled through. Intriguing.
