In many ways, it is the beaches of the west coasts of the Outer Hebrides that define the islands as a whole. This is, of course, only a small part of much richer story. Where the beach ends, the sea begins and it is the interaction of the two that delivers a fascination that never tires. This was a calm day on one of those beaches when the sea seemed unable to summon up enough energy to make real waves. So it lapped lazily up the beach just as a cat would stretch in front of an open fire in wintertime.
