Description

Much of Harris is made from igneous bedrock, formed up to 2,500 million years ago, when silica-rich magma found its way to the surface through cracks in the earth’s crust. Spend any amount of time on the east coast and you immediately get a feel for the ancient history wrapped up in the bones of the island. The landscape has been picked clean by glacial activity. You get the same sort of feeling right next to the sea on the west coast. A thick carpet of brightly coloured lichen covers the stone giving everything a primeval feel.
