Description

The 58th parallel north is a circle of latitude that crosses Europe, Asia, the Pacific Ocean, North America, the Atlantic Ocean, and our very own Dalbeg. It is characterised by dramatic seasonal changes in daylight. At the summer solstice, the sun is visible for a little over 18 hours, and it never truly gets dark at night. However, at the winter solstice, we get less than six and a half hours of daylight. In a storm, it can feel as though the sun forgot to rise that day. We’re fortunate, though, in that the Gulf Stream and the prevailing southwesterlies keep mean winter temperatures up to 20˚C warmer than similar latitudes in Canada.
