Above the beach at Dalbeg, there are two ruins. The first is an older black house. The second is more modern. We were once told that the owner of the black house began building the second house just before the Great War, died in one of the great battles and never returned to finish it. The truth, it turned out, was a little less romantic. The man began building the second house for his intended wife. She came to see it one day, announced that she had no intention of living in such a godforsaken place and promptly left!
