Northern Gannets are wide-ranging, central-place foragers during chick-rearing, typically travelling 50–100 km, but capable of journeys over 500 km. Their foraging trip duration (ranging from hours to several days) and distance increase with colony size due to competition, yet they are highly efficient, often showing individual consistency in their preferred foraging locations. We regularly see them doing a fly-past of the bay at Dalbeg, generally in a south-to-north direction.
