Description

The term navy blue comes from the dark blue uniforms adopted by the British Royal Navy in 1748, initially called “marine blue,” and later popularised globally as other navies followed suit. This distinctive, deep shade was chosen for its practicality and prestige, becoming a symbol of authority and discipline. Indigo was generally the dye used because it was immune to the effects of sun and salt water, making it ideal for sea duty, while its dark nature concealed dirt and wear. It eventually became a mainstream fashion and corporate staple as a timeless neutral colour, suggesting elegance, trust, authority, stability, and professionalism.
