Description

You might think that a beach remains a constant. In some ways, this is true. Set aside the (hopefully) gentle erosion of the land through the constant action of the sea, and the overall contours of a bay such as the one at Dalbeg remain steadfast. The same cannot be said, however, of the sand on the beach. This changes almost daily according to the tides, the winds and the waves that began their journey thousands of miles away across the Atlantic Ocean. When I painted this image, the sand had been piled high up the beach, like a snowdrift in winter, threatening to cover the stones around the margin. And yet, barely months previous, the sea seemed to have reclaimed the sand, exposing little gems of sea glass and all manner of other treasure. No doubt, it will change again.
