Description

One of the attractions of Traigh Iar, for locals and holiday-makers alike, is that the beach shelves ever so gently into the Sound of Taransay. When the weather is calm, the tide recedes quietly, leaving the most extraordinary striations in its wake, ordered in serried ranks like stepping stones. The sun then bakes the naked sand so that it warms the incoming sea when the tide turns, creating an enormous, luke-warm paddling pool. This is why, on a clear sunny day, you need to be up early to bag one of the few parking spaces above Traigh Iar.
