From late April, right the way through to the end of June, the Outer Hebrides come alive with the golden yellow colour of gorse. It is definitely a shrub that seems to thrive on the islands. And even in the most hostile of environments, right next to the sea where the south westerly winds can send salt spray miles inland,it seems to find a little nook where it can flourish. This is one such nook, a steep-sided scar in the side of Ben Losgaintir where Abhainn Bunn na Gill flows out onto the two and a half mile stretch of sand that everyone knows as Luskentyre.
